Today it is not only about hiking
On SiebenInseln, the focus is usually on hiking, nature and the beautiful landscapes of the Canary Islands. Today, however, I would like to talk about something that is just as close to my heart and closely connected to hiking: animal welfare.
Many hikers enjoy being out in nature with their dogs. There is hardly anything more rewarding than sharing these moments together. Dogs need exercise, fresh air and adventure – which is why hiking and dogs simply belong together, and this is where hiking naturally meets animal welfare.

My dog Dori, who many of you already know from my hikes, came from a shelter in Tenerife. She accompanies me on many trails and is an irreplaceable part of my life. My previous dog Falco, who sadly passed away in an accident, was also a rescue dog. Both showed me how much love, trust and joy a dog can bring when given a second chance.
For this reason, I will now regularly introduce dogs from animal welfare on the front page of SiebenInseln. Perhaps one of them will find a new home – and a hiking companion for life.
The people behind the dogs
Behind every rescued dog are people who dedicate their lives with great commitment to animal welfare, giving these animals hope and a second chance.

K9 Tenerife
K9 Tenerife is one of the most established animal welfare organisations on Tenerife. For many years, they have rescued and cared for abandoned dogs and cats until they find a loving family.
Kanarenhunde e.V.
Kanarenhunde e. V. works closely with local animal welfare partners on the Canary Islands and helps rehome dogs to Germany, always with a strong focus on responsible and careful placement.
By introducing these organisations and the dogs in their care, I hope to play a small part in ensuring that even more dogs are noticed and given the chance of a happy life. Because every dog deserves a second chance. And sometimes the greatest adventure doesn’t begin on a hiking trail, but with the decision to give a dog from an animal shelter a home.
